Next publications

The next member publication will be LMS Central Division Miscellany Part Two which will be delivered by the end of January 2025. This is a little later than planned due to family illness in the publications team.

In February 2025 members will receive Magazine 302 and LYR Focus 88.

Make sure you renew your membership as later in 2025 you will get LYR Arc Roof Carriage Drawings by Peter Taylor. This is a book of 4mm scale drawings supported by text and photos covering the L&Y’s emblematic carriages.

We have had three successful events for members during 2024.

The first was the Spring Lanky Day Out which was in the Bolton area on Sunday 24 March 2024. It included visits to Bolton station, Bromley Cross, Turton & Edgworth and Entwistle and was a great success.

The second event was a Summer Lanky Day Out which will be took place in the Calder Valley on Saturday 29 June 2024.

The third event was our AGM and Members’ Day which was held at the The Fielden Hall in Todmorden on Saturday 12 October 2024.

Animated Passenger Timetable

L&YR Society members, Brian Farrimond, John McGiveron, Frank Ball and Alec Ralph have transcribed the L&YR tables of Bradshaw’s Railway Guide of 1906. The transcription has been used to create on-line animations of the running of the L&YR passenger service on a week day and a Sunday.

The transcription will also be used by the Edge Hill University 3D Parametric Modelling Project in their development of tools to create a visualisation of the entire railway.

More information and links to the animations can be found here.
