Society events

We have three events planned for members during 2024.

The first was the Spring Lanky Day Out which was in the Bolton area on Sunday 24 March 2024. It included visits to Bolton station, Bromley Cross, Turton & Edgworth and Entwistle and was a great success.

The second event will be a Summer Lanky Day Out which will be take place in the Calder Valley and will be held on Saturday 29 June 2024 (Magazine 299 had full details).

The third event will be our AGM and Members’ Day which will be held at the The Fielden Hall in Todmorden on Saturday 12 October 2024 (Magazine 300 will have full details).

Further dates to be announced.

Animated Passenger Timetable

L&YR Society members, Brian Farrimond, John McGiveron, Frank Ball and Alec Ralph have transcribed the L&YR tables of Bradshaw’s Railway Guide of 1906. The transcription has been used to create on-line animations of the running of the L&YR passenger service on a week day and a Sunday.

The transcription will also be used by the Edge Hill University 3D Parametric Modelling Project in their development of tools to create a visualisation of the entire railway.

More information and links to the animations can be found here.
